In Africa, dance is much more than physical movement — it is a direct way to celebrate life and create healing. African Healing Dance is the first home video course for learning the expressive movements and healing traditions unique to Africa’s dance heritage. Viewers join Wyoma, the respected lead dancer and director of the Damballa dance troupe, as she teaches the African way of moving the entire body with passion and joy. Here’s an instructional program that brings a real high-energy African dance class into any home.
Wyoma has been teaching and performing the dances of Africa and the African diaspora for more than twenty years. She received a degree in dance from The Naropa Institute and has studied with Baba Olatunji, Rose Marie Guiraud, C.K. Ganyo, and many other experts in African, Caribbean, Brazilian, and healing dance. Wyoma has also performed jazz, Middle Eastern, East Indian, improvisational, and modern dance. Her first performance group, which she cofounded, was People of the Sun, a jazz theater workshop. She is currently the director of DAMBALLA, a dance company in Boulder, Colorado.
